About the Gili Islands

The Gili Islands are one of Indonesia’s most stunning tropical destinations and a perfect getaway for anyone seeking turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, vibrant marine life, and a relaxed island vibe.
Located just off the northwest coast of Lombok – and easy to reach from Bali – the Gilis offer an unforgettable mix of natural beauty and laid-back charm.

The archipelago is made up of three main islands – Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, and Gili Meno – each with its own unique character. Whether you’re after nightlife, peace and quiet, or a bit of both, there’s a Gili island for everyone.

Gili Trawangan – the lively island

Gili Trawangan, or simply “Gili T,” is the largest and most vibrant of the three. By day, it’s perfect for snorkeling, diving, and water sports. At night, the beachfront bars and restaurants come alive, offering music, cocktails, and unforgettable sunsets. It’s a great pick for travelers who enjoy a mix of beach life and nightlife.

Gili Air – the perfect balance

Gili Air strikes a lovely balance between lively and laid-back. It has calm beaches, cozy cafés, great snorkeling right off the shore, and a friendly atmosphere. This island is ideal for couples, families, and anyone who wants to relax without feeling too isolated.

Gili Meno – the quiet romantic escape

Gili Meno is the smallest and most peaceful island, famous for its serene beaches, turtle sanctuary, and the iconic underwater statues. It’s a favorite for honeymooners and those seeking privacy, tranquility, and a slower pace of life.

How to get to the Gili Islands

The easiest way to reach the Gilis is by fast boat from Bali. Boats depart from Sanur, Padang Bai, and Serangan ports, with travel times of about 1.5–2.5 hours, depending on the route and sea conditions.

If you’re arriving via Lombok, you can take a taxi or shuttle from Lombok International Airport to Bangsal Harbour and hop on a short boat ride to the islands.

Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the Gili Islands. Getting around is part of the charm – you can walk, rent a bicycle, or take a local horse-drawn cart known as a cidomo.

Things to do on the Gili Islands

  • Snorkeling and diving – encounter sea turtles, colorful coral reefs, and tropical fish.
  • Beach relaxation – enjoy soft white sand, crystal-clear water, and stunning views of Mount Rinjani in Lombok or Mount Agung in Bali.
