Gili Kedis

Gili Kedis is one of the smallest islands in the Secret Gilis group, located off the southwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia. Often called the “Honeymoon Island,” it is a tiny tropical paradise known for its soft white sand, crystal-clear water, and peaceful atmosphere. The island is so small that you can walk around it in just a few minutes — its size is often compared to a football field.

There are no hotels, shops, or restaurants on Gili Kedis. Visitors usually come here as part of a day trip from the nearby mainland or from neighboring islands such as Gili Nanggu or Gili Sudak. The island offers a perfect setting for relaxation, swimming, and picnicking, with calm shallow waters ideal for a refreshing dip. Some travelers also enjoy camping on the beach overnight to experience complete tranquility under the stars, but facilities are very basic.

Most visitors spend between one and two hours on Gili Kedis, usually as one of several stops during a full-day Secret Gilis snorkeling tour. However, the island becomes especially beautiful in the late afternoon when the day-trip boats leave, and you can enjoy the peaceful sunset almost in complete solitude. Staying for a night of camping is possible for those who bring their own equipment.

Snorkeling is possible around the island, and the calm water makes it safe for beginners. However, compared to nearby Gili Nanggu, the coral reefs here are smaller and marine life is less diverse. For the best snorkeling experience, it’s recommended to visit several islands in the area, as each offers a slightly different underwater landscape.

There are no surf spots around Gili Kedis, as the waters are too calm and shallow for waves. The island is best suited for snorkeling, swimming, photography, and relaxing. Visitors looking for surfing can find great spots on mainland Lombok, such as Desert Point or Selong Belanak Beach.

Gili Kedis is usually reached by a short boat ride — about 10 to 15 minutes — from the harbor of Sekotong on Lombok’s southwest coast. Many island-hopping tours combine Gili Kedis with Gili Nanggu and Gili Sudak, making it easy to explore all three in one day.

Although tiny, Gili Kedis captures the essence of a tropical escape: quiet beaches, turquoise water, and a feeling of isolation that is increasingly rare. It’s the perfect spot for couples, photographers, or anyone seeking peace and simplicity amid the natural beauty of Indonesia’s Secret Gilis.
