Visa

When travelling to Bali and Gilis, it is important to select the correct visa based on the length of your stay and the purpose of your visit. Indonesia offers several visa types, which differ in validity, conditions, and extension options. Below is a clear overview of the most important rules.

Tourist Visa – Visa on Arrival (VOA) and e-VOA

The Tourist Visa on Arrival (VOA) is the most commonly used option for travellers planning to stay in Indonesia for up to 30 days. It can be obtained either upon arrival at the airport or in advance online as an e-VOA.

Both versions cost 500,000 IDR and are valid for 30 days from the date of entry. Each visa can be extended once for an additional 30 days, allowing a maximum stay of up to 60 days.

To apply, travellers must hold a passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry and have a return or onward flight ticket. Applying for the e-VOA in advance helps avoid queues at the airport and allows you to proceed directly to immigration upon arrival.

Extensions for both VOA and e-VOA are processed at immigration offices in Bali, including Jimbaran, Denpasar, Gianyar, and Singaraja. Extensions can be completed in person or arranged through licensed visa agents for an additional service fee. It is recommended to apply for an extension around one week before the visa expires.

Mandatory Arrival Form: All Indonesia Arrival Card

From 1 September 2025, Indonesia has introduced a mandatory online arrival form that must be completed by all travellers before entering the country. The form is free of charge and generates a QR code, which must be presented at immigration control.

The arrival form includes basic travel details, accommodation information, and a customs declaration. Completing the form takes only a few minutes and significantly speeds up the arrival process.

Bali Tourist Levy: One-Time Fee for Visitors

Since February 2024, all international visitors to Bali are required to pay a Bali Tourist Levy through the Love Bali platform. The fee is charged once per visit, costs 150,000 IDR per person, and can be paid online in advance or upon arrival.

After payment, travellers receive a QR code voucher, which may be requested during immigration checks. The levy does not apply to holders of long-term visas (KITAS or KITAP), diplomatic visas, student visas, and certain other categories.

⚠️ Important: This levy is not a visa — a valid visa is still required for entry and stay in Indonesia.

B211A Visa – Long-Term Stay up to 180 Days

Travellers planning to stay in Bali for longer than 60 days typically apply for the B211A Visit Visa. This visa allows an initial stay of 60 days and can be extended twice, each time for an additional 60 days, making a total stay of up to 180 days.

This visa is commonly used by people who spend extended periods in Bali, attend courses, work remotely for foreign clients, or travel long-term.

The B211A visa requires a sponsor, which is usually arranged through authorised visa agencies. Required documents include a passport valid for at least six months, a photograph, and a completed application form. Prices vary by agency but generally range from 2.3 to 3.5 million IDR for the initial visa, with each extension costing approximately 2 to 2.5 million IDR.

Long-Term Visas – KITAS

KITAS is a residence permit intended for long-term stays in Indonesia. It is primarily used by foreigners who work, run a business, or live in Indonesia with their family. Several types of KITAS exist, depending on the purpose of stay.

Working KITAS

The Working KITAS is designed for foreigners employed by an Indonesian company. The employer is responsible for arranging both the work permit and the KITAS.

Talent or Freelancer KITAS

This option is suitable for individuals working online for foreign clients in creative or technical fields. It allows long-term residence but does not permit employment within the Indonesian labour market.

Family KITAS

The Family KITAS is intended for spouses and children of Indonesian citizens. It allows long-term residence but does not grant work rights.

Retirement KITAS

The Retirement KITAS is available to individuals aged 55 and over who wish to live in Indonesia long-term. Requirements include long-term accommodation rental, health insurance, and proof of sufficient financial resources.

Other Available Visa Options

In certain cases, travellers may also use other visa types, such as:

  • Business Visa (B211B) – for business meetings, conferences, and professional activities
  • Multiple Entry Visa – allowing multiple entries over one to five years, with each stay typically limited to 60 days
  • Investor KITAS – for individuals investing in an Indonesian company and planning long-term business activities

Important Information for Travellers

Travellers must strictly observe the permitted length of stay. Overstaying is penalised with a fine of 1,000,000 IDR per day. Indonesian immigration regulations are strictly enforced, and visitors are strongly advised to monitor their visa validity carefully.

Before departure, it is recommended to save digital copies of all important documents on your phone, including the arrival card QR code, e-VOA, flight tickets, and accommodation confirmation. Internet access may be limited in some areas of the airport.

Which Visa to Choose Based on Length of Stay?

  • Up to 30 days: VOA or e-VOA
  • Up to 60 days: VOA with extension
  • 2–6 months: B211A
